National UTA strike: In Mendoza, public transportation "will operate normally."

National UTA strike: In Mendoza, public transportation "will operate normally."

This was confirmed by Natalio Mema, Minister of Government, Infrastructure and Territorial Development.

In the run-up to the bus strike scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, business leaders confirmed that the collective bargaining negotiations have collapsed and that the Union of Automotive Tram Drivers ( UTA ) has rejected all the proposals presented so far. "Negotiations have fallen through; there's no way to reach an agreement," industry sources explained after the failed meeting at the National Labor Secretariat, headed by Julio Cordero.

Thus, the 24-hour strike was ratified by the UTA leadership after conciliation efforts failed and a salary agreement was not reached. The union is demanding an increase in the base salary from $1,200,000 to $1,700,000, while employers offered a 6% increase and non-remunerative payments, which the union organization described as "disrespectful."

For its part, the national government described the strike ordered for tomorrow as an "extortionate strike" and stated that the union's decision "takes passengers hostage." "Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6, the UTA (Union Tranviarios Automotor) union declared an extortionate strike for not having received a 40% pay raise, which far exceeds the government's salary guidelines. Therefore, the union has decided to take passengers hostage and not work after months of negotiations ," the Ministry of Transportation said in a statement released this afternoon.

In addition, he added that "the UTA union rejected the increase offered by the companies after multiple negotiations at the Ministry of Labor." While in the AMBA "there are bus lines that will not comply with the strike measure," according to the Government, they also noted that "it is expected that more than 50% of transport companies will not comply with the strike."

In the case of Mendoza , Minister Natalio Mema stated that "in Mendoza, transportation does NOT stop." He then referred to the measure taken by the UTA and its scope in the province: "Although a national strike has been announced for this Tuesday, public transportation in our province will operate normally." He closed his statement with X: "No activity will be affected."
